University of Tennessee Granted COVID-19 Law Exemptions

Governor Lee signed a sweeping COVID-19 bill on Nov 12 during a special session designed to outlaw vaccine and mask mandates for government entities and education facilities. The law also places restrictions on what businesses can do to ensure patrons are vaccinated and ends mask mandates.

UT President Randy Boyd lifted mask requirements throughout the UT system immediately; however, he also announced that they had applied for an exemption to allow flexibility in order to keep federal funding. That exemption was granted and confirmed that masks are once again required on campus as of November 22.
