Potential Exposure of 100 Patients to HIV and Hepatitis

Almost 100 Tennessee patients have been warned of potential hepatitis and HIV exposure at Ballad Health in Johnson City. Letters were sent to patients visiting the health facility on May 3, 2021, encouraging the patients to have precautionary testing although the potential risk was said to be extremely low. Ballad Health also said they would arrange and cover the cost of the tests.

The exact source of exposure has not been revealed, but a statement from Ballad Health stated that one of their long-term nursing staff noticed something of concern and reported it to superiors. The statement also confirms that the individual responsible for the potential contamination if no longer working for them.
