Which Medical Specialties are Most Likely to be Sued for Malpractice

The 2021 Medscape Malpractice Report was published on November 19 and gives some insight into which doctors are more likely to find themselves facing a medical malpractice lawsuit. Plastic Surgeons and General Surgeons topped the list jointly, both seeing 83% of active specialists being named in a malpractice lawsuit. Next up were Orthopedic specialists at 81% followed by Urology with 80%. Rounding out the top 5, OB-GYN specialists took fifth place at 79%.

The report also revealed that Tennessee is among the top 10 states when it comes to the percentage of medical malpractice lawsuits filed every year.
